Sunday Funday!!!

This morning I went to church with Erin and Jeremy (my house mates at Melrose) out in Ash Grove. I hadn’t been to an AG church before so I was def not prepared for the praise and worship stuff…I am used to Baptist preachers being really long winded and such. But it was really nice!

It is absolutely gorgeous weather today and Felicia, Jenna and I are going to drive out to Fairgrove to go to The Harvest Fest that’s going on there! It’s free and I’m super excited! Some of my favorite things are going to Festivals. Crafts, Harvest, Arts, Food, Music…I JUST LOVE FESTIVALS!

I hope everyone is having a really great day!

PS. Yesterday the other Lindsey helped me put on my bicycle basket. Finally!  It’s so cute and my little monster, Amos, fits just perfect right there up front now! YAY!

A Fresh Start Fall

I recently moved into a new place! It’s a whole lot closer to work, to my friends and to our downtown area!  I LOVE IT! We call it Melrose Place and the building consists of Jeremy, Erin and Phill.  I couldn’t be happier right now!  We all know how much I love to decorate and garden right!?  Well I am currently repainting the kitchen PINK, the living room Mark Twain House Gold (it’s kinda green!), I recovered two matching chairs for my bedroom yesterday and made a new doggy bed for my little Amos Monster! OMGoodness!!!  As for the gardening bit…it’s the best part….All the house mates had a garden this past summer and we all plan on doing it again come spring and all I have to do is glance out my craft room windows and there it is!!!  RIGHT IN MY EYE SIGHT!!!  Eeek!  Apartment living has always kinda freaked me out, I’ve only lived in one apartment my entire life until now and I was 17!  It’s terribly exciting!

I have been so busy and this summer just turned into utter craziness so I feel awful that I haven’t been blogging.  It’s completely lame.  This fall and winter hopefully I will make more time for the things I love and remove some of those distractions that were less than productive!

Harvesting In The Morning

Today is so beautiful outside!  The weather is gorgeous and I got up fairly early to water and harvest some vegetables.   I managed to get 2 Green Bell Peppers, another tomato from the Paul Robeson, one from the Black Beauty, about 7 Early Boys, two hands full of Yellow Pear tomatoes and a salads worth of lettuce!  The early boy whatever tomatoes are just awful so I threw them in today’s Tex-Mex Chili and I plan on enjoying that later this evening! Yummy!   I also tried to pick a head of cabbage but let me tell you, FAIL!  The worms may have won.  It is true.  I am sad but…they won.

Later today Felicia and I are going to The Moxie to watch Food Inc.  I am so excited! I have been wanting to see this film since I first heard about it months ago!

Neglectful

Dear Blog,

I have been so neglectful.  Please forgive me.  I promise to be more attentive to your needs in the very near future! Excuses! Excuses! I met a lady.  She is kind, beautiful, smart, and I adore her…my head may be in her ass slightly though.  I am so very sorry.  Also my camera has been in repair at Best Buy for over a month now and I am feeling rather awkward without it.  I always think “Oh take a picture and blog about this.”  Oh but I can’t, so I have been neglecting the entire thing altogether.  Sad day.

Love,

Lindsey

Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell

I get so angry.  So angry. Why is hate a family value? Why do we allow the minority to  waste our money and time on these fucking “Witch Hunts”? I just can’t wrap my head around why people think that who one fucks in their bed has anything to do with how one might fight. Furthermore here we are fighting for your rights, fighting for your freedom and we are second class citizens.  We are denied rights you take for granted because of privilege you gained just for being Heterosexual.  This unfair treatment has to end.  DADT is just another example of how far behind we are as a country. I am livid.  I am sickened.  At this point it’s just willful stupidity.

Racheal Maddow is a warrior.  She stands talk among the meek.  If anyone is being fierce in the face of adversity it’s womyn and men like Maddow.  How is Obama being fierce when whe lets these thing slip under the  rug?   How is he being an advocate for gay and lesbian Americans?

This Crazy Busy Life

This past week was super crazy and full of fun!  Last Thursday was my Best Friend Ashley’s 25th birthday, then the next evening was spent with my friend Felicia who was celebrating her good friend ending Chemo, Saturday I work a double and then finally Sunday the entire day was spent at Silver Dollar City!!!  Was there time for much else?  I think not.  My house is a wreck, laundry is starting to pile up and that garden needs work.  So what did I decide to do with my day off from the world?  Play and sleep.  That’s right folks, I only did two things on that to-do list and it felt great!  Dishes be damned!

Never the less I managed to turn the beds a little and weed some ever thriving grass that had worked its way into the cabbage patch.  I also trimmed a rose bush and worked on clearing out the overgrown butterfly bed today. Overall I feel like the effort spent was much needed and of course rewarded myself handsomely, with a 3 hour nap.

I also ordered myself a helmet from REI.  My friend has been on my back about getting one since I ride so much and so far.  I finally found one I liked today and now I am impatiently awaiting its arrival!  I happened to buy myself a new Nalgene too since I lost my beloved pink one awhile back.

Since moving into the new house I have found a new since of craftiness!  I love creating anything and everything.  I guess my mused was just all dried up there for awhile though and I think I went a whole year without making one damn thing.  I didn’t sew a single stitch, paint a single speckle or craft a single collage.  But now!!!  I can’t even stop myself.  I’m painting a bird house to match the house and I love it!  I am working on a third painting and just today I started a Kimono style bath robe for myself!  I even managed to fix a gathering apron today that needed a little love.  Let me tell you how good it feels too.  I love being able to say, “Yeah, I made that!”.

I hope everyone’s week is off to a fabulous start!  Don’t work too hard!

Peanut Butter Hummus

Today ended up being a rather rainy day.  Don’t worry though; I took full advantage of having to stay indoors!  I managed to clean the entire house!  A super productive day; what could be better?

PEANUT BUTTER HUMMUS!

Last month I decided to become a full time Vegetarian. True, some days I fail and I start over again the next day but; I feel pretty good about it so far.  Since then I have been trying my hand at a lot of new recipes.  Last week my roommate and I had a few friends over and we all had homemade Black Bean Burgers. They were so good!  Not to toot my own horn but, they were really yummy!  We all piled on the Muenster cheese, crispy pickles and those fabulously tangy yellow peppers!  Ummm…

So last week at the market I decided that I wanted to make hummus from scratch.  Beans to hummus.  I feel like this is pretty cool, no lie.  I made hard beans tasty like yummy hummus!   I tried a bit of it for myself and it’s not half bad.  My initial reaction was that it isn’t as smooth as store bought hummus but I decided that it means it’s less processed and therefore better.  I say the trade off is worth it.  This is my original recipe for Peanut Butter Hummus.  I hope you enjoy!

Peanut Butter Hummus

2 1/2 cups of soaked, rinsed and cooked chickpeas

2 cloves of garlic

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 tablespoon lime juice

2 tablespoons of Peanut Butter

1 cup plain yogurt

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon pepper

Handful of fresh parsley leaves

Yesterday I soaked the chickpeas over night and today I boiled them for about 2 hours.  Since I used chunky Smuckers Peanut Butter I threw that, the garlic and the fresh parsley (from our herb garden!!!) in the food processor first.  Then I added the chickpeas and olive oil.  After this reached about the consistency of mayo I mixed in the lime juice, yogurt, salt and pepper by hand.

Soaking the chickpeas.

Wish me luck!  My friend and my roommate are the true test of my new recipe later this evening!

Glampour Lust

I don’t need a fiction novel to help me escape anymore.  All I have to do is close my eyes and I’ve already wished myself away into a land surrounded by majestic mountains and sometimes sprawling prairies.

I’ve always been the kind of girl that lived outside.  I can’t sit still long enough to have anything inside hold my attention.  When I was little if I wasn’t at Girl Scout camp I was playing with the boys or on a fishing trip with my dad or swimming at the pool.  I’ve always belonged in the fresh air.

Lately though I have a new obsession; a huge lust.  Beyond my cob house, beyond the organic farm and even beyond babies I’ve dreamt up a dream far too marvelous.  It all started with one of my favorite magazines  Mary Jane’s Farm.  It’s a lovely magazine filled with recipes, aprons and organic farming tips.  Nestled in there though was a great article about Sister’s on The Fly.  I was hooked.  Day one I rushed home from work with that issue in hand and sat down at the computer.  I figure I spent the next 2 hours finding everything I could about Glamping (Glamour Camping) and about Sister’s on The Fly.  The obsession was born!  I decided right then and there that I had to have a camper and I had to travel.  My dreams normally consist of going to every single National Park in America.  Sometimes they include visiting Intentional Communities and Organic Farms too.  All this traveling in my fabulous Glampour!!! (My word! Eek! My glamorous camper….get it! Hehehe!)

Since then the reality has set in.  I love my house and I love my friends and that I would need a truck and a camper to do this but….the dream hasn’t died.  Check out some of these adorable campers and the Flickr sets I found them in!

I don’t know about you but in my mind nothing says summer time quite like the ice cream man!  His mesmerizing little bell just luring me in.  Everyday, same time….I gave in.
